Amish Buggy Plans

I am looking for plans for a model of an Amish Buggy. Something in the size range of a 12" doll but I can scale the plan if needed. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks Daryl

That reminds me. The tourist bureau is reminding everybody that it's been 20 years since "Witness" was filmed here. One outfit is doing bus tours of the farm. It hasn't changed a lot.

I don't know if any plans have ever been published. I think the builders around here all have their own plan that they build to staying within the church guidelines and PennDot regulations. I guess that builders in other states do much the same. Amish buggies hereabouts always have grey uppers and the corners where the sides meet the tops have a curve. The lower sides, wheels and the doors are black. Dimensions? Well how big a wagon can one horse manage? One can't build one too large for those reasons and also it's bad to appear to 'show off' by having a larger wagon than the other brethren. Rear wheels, which are taller, seem to run around 48 inches, judging by what I've seen. Hope some of this helps even though it's not exactly what you wanted.

Just happened to think of this. Back in the day, Revell did a "Medicine Wagon" in about 1:48 (As did Adams, Like-Like and a number of others) Could the Amish wagon be along those lines. I understand that a 200% scale-up is kind of a bitch, but like I said, it was a thought.

Another starting point- throughout history most vehicles have had a wheel tread (distance between center of wheel on one side to center on other side) of 48-49 inches. I think Studebaker and a few other wagon makers in the late nineteenth century made some "wide track" wagons so vehicles would not get locked into ruts of other vehicles, but that didn't seem to take- most wanted the standard tread. So that would set width of vehicle.

There was a poster here only a month or so- kind of made himself a pain with repetitive postings- who did show a site that gave a couple of folks who offer plans for horse-drawn vehicles. Go to Google groups (old deja news) and try a search on subjects- buggies, horse-drawn vehicles.
