Dune Buggy Plans

Friends and I are planning on building a Dune Buggy. Need some info on building a Dune Buggy. Need any information on this subject, like frame building plans, suspension parts, motor info, etc.

Thanks,

Steve

Don't build anything from this site unless you can use proper cv joints for axles. The ag u-joints they use are just not meant to take the abuse those bike motors can dish out at those drive angle ranges. How do I know? I'm a farmer, and I've worn out several of those joints with far more even torque loads and lower drive angles. The buggy frames seem well designed, and certainly look cool, but the forums on that site really seems to be inhabited with little punks. I guess thats not a problem if you and your friends are little punks too. Do a search for "Rorty R6 buggy" and you might be happier. Hope that helps.

Take a look at sandrail.com. Lots of stuff there. Two books you might want to look at are: "Building you VW based Dune Buggy, Peter Ezell, John Quan, Quazell Technical Publishers" "Baja Bugs and Buggies, Jeff Hibbard, HP Books"

Ebay, Amazon, or abebooks probably should have these.

Never been there, but I know it's popular with the ATV crowd.

Check out these sites. http://207.176.153.18/index.html (Badland buggy, designed by an engineer not just a racer who can weld; my personal favorite)

This is in reply to Sven who asked: "Are you Zach from Bemidji?"

No. Unless you owe Him, er Me, some money. Then, that would be Me... ;-)

The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive!

Drew, Bruce is draftsman, not an engineer. I whatched him change his story over time. He had built two cars when he decided to knock off ideas from The Edge products in Australia. Some say there are parts from the Desertkarts plans book too. It's a cool looking car. The roll cage is too skinny to keep your head from hitting the ground if you go over. Be carefull.
