Government rebate check? Did I miss something? If it's like any other tax cut, it might get me a bottle of paint, but beyond that....

I won't get a check because I actually work for a living and make a decent income. If I were on relief and had no income, then I could count on getting a big refund for taxes I never paid in the first place!! That is our Robin Hood government at work. I keep hearing we have a president who is a compassionate conservative. I think the definition of that must be liberal democrat.

I'm going "on strike"! I won't buy anything other than what I actually need to survive. That is until Monogram releases a 1/48 Visible Mitchell or we get someone to release the Renwal Visible Wasp engine, or..........(:>

its in all the papers....coming soon. a $600 check per individual,

1200 for couples, 300 for each kid. coming in early spring if the Bush crowd can get it done.

It's all how you look at it. Think of it this way - you go to the local appliance store. If you buy a $300 appliance you get a $50 rebate. If you buy nothing - you get a $400 rebate. Makes perfect sense to me. If it was up to Hillary, if you bought the $300 appliance - you'd have to give an extra $100 to the guy who didn't buy anything. Now you know the difference between Republicans and Democrats.

" coming in early spring if the Bush crowd can get it done."

Oh, the Bush crowd has signed off on it along with some of the Democratic leadership. Unfortunately it still has to get through the house and senate and I ain't holding my breath on that.

So YOU'RE the guy who briefs Bush on the economy!

Yes, we're all going off to buy something made in Asia.

Okay, so he IS compassionate. Remember how he was going to deal with the rascal who outed Plame? Until he found out it was Dick. Via himself. Oops.

Well, okay, but you have to give him his claim to be a "uniter, not a divider". I'd say he has pretty much got the whole world united in their opinion of the US government, at the least...

Ahh, one last "State of the (dis-)Union" speech from him. Pity I have a meeting with the sub-continent that will keep me from watching such a historic and joyous event... Oh well, it will start with a lie, no doubt. He may even voice that lie with some regret, given his attempts to create a monarchy.

Using money that was raised there.

Same way we spent the first Bush rebate.........paying higher utility bills, maybe a tank of gas for our two 4 bangers; you know, sifting a little bit more sand under our feet in this rat hole!!!!!!

I already spent mine. I think it was about 2 years ago.

so they've come up w/ a "compromise" plan, that includes money for people that don't pay taxes because their income is too low. that was a sticking point in the initial proposal ("those that would benefit the most / sure to spend it wouldn't get it" was the original sticking point)

on CSPAN last night, somebody from the treasury was testifying before the finance(?) committee. The gist of his testimony was that if it were signed into law today, the checks wouldn't be available until late June / early July anyway. Reasons given: a) swamped w/ "filing season" processing, so they wouldn't be able to start the project until late April to early March, and b) it would take 8-10 weeks thereafter to issue and mail the checks.

at least two of the committee members appeared stunned that the checks wouldn't be in the mail the day after signing...

Put your rebate where your mouth is mister compassionate and donate it to charity when it comes in. Oh wait...

If the rebate money is spent (not put away) it will most likely go towards one of these:

  1. pay off some existing bills (credit card debt, car payment, mortgage payment, etc.).
  2. purchase bunch of items at Wally Mart (made in China)
  3. purchase a luxury item like a flat screen HDTV (made in China by a Japanese copmany).
  4. (on this group:) purchase some model kits, supplies or tools (most likely all made in China).

This will dramatically strengthen the US economy, right? Sure Mr. President! I'm no accountant but I smell a rat here. :-)

I am hoping to purchase some of the older WWI Guillows Kits on eBay. If it ever shows up. Not holding my breath.
