The old Airfix waterlines ?
As a kid I wrote to them asking if they had any plans for water features for waterline ship models to replace the stands that came with the models. No reply but some did come out. It was basically a water surface imitation with a hull shape indented into it.
Not a really good idea (and I hoped it was mine ;-) ) but they did try!
