has one colour side view on an A4 page (one of five shots on page 78) of Cavalier Turbo Mustang III N6167U as test flown in

1968. The artwork shows a dark green, light green and light earth camo paint job (similar to RAF Spitfire A or B pattern) on top and a grey underside with a white prop spinner and front edge of the cowling. The N6167U is painted on the tail in yellow, it does not extend onto the rudder, and starts just above the fillet on the vertical surface of the tail. It looks like an extended canopy and may have been dual control or a pilot and observer. The vertical tail is extended higher than the Mustangs, and is smaller area than the later PA-48. It has wingtip "tanks".

It also has the following info:

December 1967: First flight of the Cavalier Mustang II, developed for the ground attack and counter insurgency (COIN) roles.

29 April 1971: First flight of the first of two turboprop powered (Lycoming T55) and substantially redesigned Cavelier Enforcer (N202PE). A second aircraft (N201PE) quickly followed. The design rights were sold to Piper later in the same year.

12 July 1971: The first Cavelier Enforcer prototype crashes after flutter caused an elevator to seperate from the tailplane. The pilot ejected safely.

4 September 1981: After pressure from the US Congress, Piper receives a $US12m contract to build two PA-48 Enforcers for flight testing and evaluation by the USAF. Some within the Congress had lobied for the Enforcer since it's days as a Cavalier project, envisaging a role for it as a low cost ground attack/ counter insurgency (COIN) aircraft for supply to friendly smaller nations. 9 April 1983: First flight of the first of two PiperPA-48 Enforcers (N481PE) with further modifications over the original Cavalier versions.

There is a 1/4 page b/w photo of the 9 April flight just after take off or just before landing, flaps not extended, wheels just clear of ground. This final expression of the Mustang which had begun 43 years earlier failed to find any customers.

Not much on the Turbo lll, but I hope this helps, Peter
