Delay the November Election?

Let me help you with the facts that you are sadly lacking: Gore lost every recount even with the aid of massive democrat voting fraud that was initiated. USSC stopped the Fla SC of changing rules on the fly. And last but not least, our political system is based on a "Representative" govt. system. You should seriously review your knowledge of the political process and get up to speed.

You don't apply for a job at the USSC, you have to be appointed by the President, and I haven't received my call yet. And in the case of the Fla SC of trying to change the established rules on the fly, the USSC was correct in stopping the democrat political nonsense. Hope this helps you out with your problem.

Oh, I'm sorry, did I say somewhere that Gore won Florida? to clarify it for you, I did not. I merely pointed out that any election this close with this many voters will never have an absolutely correct total, even with recounts. Therefore, if there is as much at stake as there was in this case, there will be cascading political shenanigans by both sides. And there were. Each side accused the other of fraudulent voting practices. Some of it might be true. Most of it is probably partisan hogwash.

In the final analysis, there are no rules. There is only politics. A Democrat called for a selective recount. A Republican contested it. A Republican Florida administration engaged in a particular interpretation of the election rules to partially thwart the Democrat request. The largely Democrat Florida Supreme Court thwarted the intentions of the Republican Florida administration. A dominantly Republican US Supreme Court threw it back to the Florida Supremes. The Florida Supremes again found for an arguably Democrat position. The US Supremes found (in a split decision aligned by political affinities) that the Florida Supremes were wrong and terminated further recounting. The problem with rules is that they are always subject to interpretation, and when you politicize the adjudicators, there is no such thing as an objective finding. You want absolute rules? I suggest prayer.

We have three distinctly different forms of democracy operating in this country: [1] Direct vote for elected officials and (in some jurisdictions) initiatives. Not representative. Also only indirectly relevant to the Florida situation. [2] Legislative democracy. Representative, but not relevant to the Florida situation. [3] Selection of Presidents and Vice Presidents by electors. Somewhat representative, but strictly different because of winner-take-all conditions and the complete fredom of electors to do whatever they think right despite directives from the voters. I'm not complaining about 'winner-take-all,' since it has served the country well historically, and it isn't required by the US Constitution either. Nevertheless, it is often less representative of the will of the people in a particular state than would be the proportionate representation of congressional delegations.

None of this is relevant to what I said anyway, and it never gets to my final point, which you either missed or for which you have no coherent answer. Why do you think this country consists only of those states which voted for Bush-Cheney?

I'm doing fine, thank you, and you seem to be too. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

How did you ever remain a liberal, with all these incentives? I wish I got 500 resumes a week; I might be able to farm out the laundry and bathroom cleaning.

Well, if he does, he had the road paved very smoothly for him by Bush and his cronies via the Patriot Act. I still don't understand why those of you in this group who lean "somewhat" to the right aren't literally up in arms over your loss of civil liberties due to this law.!

As for a reason to vote for Kerry/Edwards, how about as a means to lessen the likelihood of establishing a Bush family dynasty, which they are clearly preparing to do. If GW wins again, who do you suppose will run for the GOP in 2008? Do you think his name begins with "B"?

Honestly, I believe that your average working stiff deserves a chance to make it. The Neocons want to close what few doors are left sans professional sports! Tell your kids to develop a left handed 98 mph cutter or tell them "too bad son your college degree only qualifies you for a mail room job."

Furthermore, Corporate Welfare is and always will be 1,000 times more expensive then human welfare and health care despite what the NeoCon Hatespeakers spew out. Our CEO class has had enough breaks, they get their offshore slave labor, they get their benefit cuts but where does it help consumers? Nowhere. Have your clothes, software, cars, gasoline gotten cheaper? NO. An argument can be made that computers got cheaper when all the chip makers moved to Korea in the early 90's however how much of the costs savings is due to cheaper labor and how much is due to increased production efficiencies?

It is a race to the bottom and 99% of us will be losers. Supply side economics is just "voodoo" right wing crap, however all the RushHannity Brownshirts quote it like scripture.

It being a dull day, I decide to respond to what "Kurt Laughlin" foisted Wed, 14 Jul 2004 03:48:58 GMT on rec.crafts.metalworking , viz:

And the Japanese economy remains in a deflationary spiral, hobbled by the fact that while the real estate market bubble popped, the loans based on those inflated values haven't been "adjusted". Of course, as long as payments are made, those loans are still counted as "good". But the economy is going nowhere, slowly.

Hi Boris:

It is obvious the Bush team is starting to come unglued. This is a dysfunctional administration and my bet is we see some amazing behavior from them in the coming months.

The flap over delayed elections is just the tip of the iceberg of the panic in the White House. Not only do they realize they are going to lose in a landslide in November, but that it will be a landslide of "historic proportions."

The reason the planning to delay elections is so alarming is that it totally jives with our expectations of something the Bushies might try to pull. If this was ordinary contingency planning, which government does all the time, and which it might very well be, nobody would notice.

Unfortunately, after three and a half years of deceit, retribution, blame deflection, unaccountability, idiotic proposals for Constitutional Amendments, constant lying, repeated failures in every sphere of governance and a display of incompetence unmatched since the Harding (R) Administration .....

..... the idea that Bush might try to kill off the elections seems all too possible.

Everyone on the street that I meet, many who have been apathetic participants in the election process (myself included), is getting ready and registered. The polls saying it is a close race are utter rubbish.

I do wish Bush would do the honorable thing and pull an LBJ for us and save everyone a lot of trouble and treasure. If he would just realize he is incapable of governing the nation and bow out of the race, that would be a blessing of Biblical impact.

Alas, he has no honor and I am not holding my breath for this miracle.

...../V

P.S. Don't forget there is more at stake here then presidential politics. We have a lot of Congress people to dump in the trash bin of history as well, including my own representative of the 4th Colorado District.

I wish Kerry would do the honerable thing and drop out. Matter of fact it would be even more honerable for him to resign from his present elected office. All this due to the fact that he is a self admitted war crimminal. This is someone who admitted shooting civillians, burning villages of innocent people.........

Do you want a self admitted war crimminal as president ??

He got a purple heart for a BAND AID on his thumb as a result of his throwing a grenade in a NON COMBAT situation. Real honerable I bet you think, right ?? I have a friend who got his thumb sliced wide open by a VC grenade fragment, yet he didnt get one

Or voted for the war, but not to pay for it ?

Or changes his mind soo often, no one can keep it straight ?

Or one that says that he dosnt own SUV's that his family does, and then in another speech right after says he owns them ?

Kerry has shown no spine, no conviction, or even basic principles that he has stood behind all his life. Show me one political idea hs has stood behind for any reasonable length of time ?? Is this what you want ??

And with his wife's co. (Heinz) having 72% of ot's workforce overseas, yet he wants to bring job's back to the USA ?? Try with his wife's co. first !

He wants communion from the curch, yet he does not practice his faith. Votes for abortion, yet says that life begins at conception.

Or how about Edwards..... Just what we need a trial lawyer in the white house. I bet he wont be able to carry his own state for the presidential race....... (but I'm sure all the convicts, and dead people will vote for him there. Democrats have a way with these kinds of people, it's been proven over and over !!)

Edwards and Kerry make the Clintons looke like conservate republicans !! With all the money Kerry/Edwards have, do you really think they are going to look out for the *little people* ?? Instead of bitching about Bush/Cheney and Haliburton, you will be complaining about Kerry/Edwards and the Trail Lawyer Association...

Tort reform is badly needed in this country. but under Kerry/Edwards, a terrible situation will only get far worse...............

Really ??? If they are soo bad, how did they get elected during Clinton's presidency, when the democrats had complete control of all three branches ?? Didnt it occur to you then that mainstream America didnt like it then. nor will vote for it now ?? You really need to take your blinders off, and see what the world outside your computer, and house look like sometime. You will NOT see liberals everywhere like you seem to think.......

Liberals just dont get it..... Mainstream America is just not ready for a liberal party running this country..

All the big cities in America are liberal, and these liberals completely overlook, and dont even care about the people who dont live in these large cities... A very myopic view that will keep Kerry out of the white house...

Actually the REAL reason tha Kerry will not get elected is because of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

But thats a whole 'nother story.................................

"Only a Gentleman can insult me, and a true Gentleman never will..."

Classic real estate bubble. When the value of a piece of real estate can only be recovered by selling the property, not by selling anything made on the property, you have an over valued market. Similar in kind to the dot.com bubble, or the famous Amsterdam Tulip craze.

Speaking of honorable...

It might be worth nothing that John Kerry not only won the Purple Heart, but also won the Bronze Star and the Silver Star. To portray him as someone who isn't deserving of decorations is simply incorrect. Whatever you may think of him he served his country and was HIGHLY decorated for heroism, as well as being wounded.

In addition, it seems you're confusing John Kerry with Bob Kerrey who has, indeed, admitted to having killed civilians. If you would like to quarrel with HIS record perhaps you'd like to first note that he was awarded the Medal of Honor, this nation's highest honor, for his service in command of a Seal team. After having half his leg blown off he continued to command and lead the team in a fighting withdrawal.

This line of argument is similar to that used against Max Cleland. In that case the argument was he lost three of his limbs in a non combat incident and wasn't, therefore, heroic. He did indeed lose his limbs after combat...combat during which he won the Bronze Star for bravery. Of course, these facts are carefully omitted by those seeking to disparage the service of these men for political reason.

Whatever you may think of these men, Democrats all, to dishonor their truly heroic service to this country is uncalled for by anyone who considers him or herself a patriot.
