My bet is it wasn't exactly 'experimental', but was probably for a pre-war war game. It looks pretty quickly slopped on & I have seen pics & drawings of P-36s in a similar camo of at least orange & white. Can't recall the other colors, maybe green &/or blue, but it was just for taking sides, not a specific camo, IIRC.

It will be very expensive and will have hundred of parts put not one of them will be shaped accurately. :-(

They were called the Barclay schemes after the artist who designed them. I have photocopies of the Tailhook magazine article which goes into the story of them...but I don't think it had specific colors listed.

I can still hope and dream can't I ???

Back in about the mid '70s, the now defunct Scale Modeler was putting posters in the mags each month. One was of a P-36 in 'wargame camo' & I'm sure at least 2 colors were white & orange with maybe the blue or green as well.

Buffaloos and even P-51's were done in thes schemes, and AFAIK they were real serious attempts of camouflage, breaking up the outline of the planes. It was done to ships too, mostly in WW I, called "Razzle Dazzle"1. I have three pics of the Buffalo in BW, but I'm pretty sure the article said the colors were just that - Black, White and a little Grey

Check out the box art for the Revell P-36 in the 3-model kit from the late 1960s; that shows the colors and tints.

The P-36 was completely different, not a Barclay scheme.
