Is this a model of the oft-mentioned and oft-maligned Fruitbat?

Don asked:

Heck No! That os amuch prettier a/c than the Fruitbat. The Fruitbat was an amphibian. The Fruitbat had a prominent relief tube not seen on this model. The model in the picture is a scratchbuilt model from Alan Clarke. Rumor still floating that an Asian manufacturer will produce a multimedia kit of the Fruitbat for release in ????. The masters have supposedly been redone to incorporate new technology.

It is the sole Vickers Type 253. It was built to Air Ministry Specification G.4/31, along with the Parnall G.4/31 and the Handley Page HP47.

I heard that after the committee for decency won the court case to have the fruitbat melted down as an eyesore that a collector bought the scrap, which is what the kit will be made from.Release date is rumored to be February 32

2050.He says he'll enclose a piece of the relief tube with a letter of authenticity.

Eyeball noted:

A couple of prblems with your post: First the date given is well beyond the end of the Mayan calendar, therefore not acceptable. Second shipping a piece of the relief tube as a memento would be in violation of existing anti-terrorism regulations and hazardous materials rules.

Oh yes, go on - it's easy to have a chuckle at the expense of pioneers. But think on this first: if after first seeing the Fruitbat prototype he hadn't had the brainwave of reversing the direction of thrust, Sikorsky may not have developed the helicopter as we know it today. Not a lotta people know that.

Whoa there Nelly! Ole Igor doesn't get off easy on this one! Who do you think provided engineering data on the seaplane section of the design? That's right, It was stolen from Sikorsky's amphibian designs, especially the S-38Z, yes the twin hull design! Who do you think the F. Brother's engineering contacted for design info on the relief tube and navigators suite? Right again, Ole Igor S himself. Sikorsky tried to keep this little bit really quiet, so they could be bought out by the new owners. You put Sikorsky's name anywhere near the Fruitbat and you will get a "serious letter" from the lawyers.

how do igor's account of a rubber duck, a donkey with a cold and three days in philly one night figure in?

These "rumors" have nothing to do with the Fruitbat, however if you mention them around the HQ of Sikorsky you will either:

  1. Get promoted to VP
  2. Get a letter of reprimand
  3. Talk to the company legal staff OR
  4. Get your security clearance pulled

It seems to me that only the legal staff work there. Everything else is bought on the blackmarket and assembled by children in Indonesia for 50¢ a week. ;)

Well, I don't and the state already insulted me by saying my aptitude test said I should be a lawyer or in management.
