Griffon Seafires?

Question

I see that Aeromaster have recently released two 1/48 decal sheets for Griffon Seafires, namely the Mks XV and XVII. Do they know something that we don't?

The only Seafire XV kit that I know of is the old Hobbycraft kit and that is pretty much unavailable these days. Even if it *was* freely available, it would require an awful lot of work to bring it up to a reasonable standard, even before conversion to a XVII is considered.

Is any other manufacturer considering releasing these aircraft as kits?

hmm. That's sort of like some outfit that has decals for both 1/48 &1/72 French Vautours (sp). AFAIK there are no 1/72 kits!

I know that there are kits to convert a Spitfire V into a XII. However, the Seafire XV isn't simply a navalised Spit XII. The wing of the XV has two radiators rather than a radiator and an oil cooler. A Seafire XV could conceivably be made by combining the XII conversion with a Spit IX wing. The Seafire XVII would require a Spit XVI kit with a Spit XII conversion kit and a new rudder. Either way, it starts to look like a very expensive process. I'd be surprised if anyone would build more than one.

I actually have a Hobbycraft XV in my stash, but I really don't like it. I think I might try grafting the nose onto a Hasegawa Spit VIII.

FWIW   Aero-Club has an injection molded conversion kit to make a 1/48scale Mk. XVII and it is pretty nice.						Bill ShueyEnzo Matrix wrote:
