Has it been re-tooled with the new nose and inlets, or is it still the ol' ESCI mold? (The new Squadron supplement has a -3 illustrated.)

It's the old ESCI M3, however I'd call it an "hybrid". In fact it has M3 intakes (wrong shape anyway), while nose, tail turret and blow in doors are more suitable for an M2. Anyway it has some shape problems, so it needs some "surgery". We talked about these faults in the last
2-3 weeks, try a google groups search (otherwise I can repost my comments).My 0.02
Thanks. I was thinking of getting one (I have the ESCI/ERTL "Tu-22M/Tu-26 Backfire B" with the original intakes), but I think I'll wait until an accurate -3 comes out. (Hurry up, Trumpeter/Panda! I ain't gonna live forever!)
Oh, I don't think you'll have to wait so much. Someone will make a perfect Backfire as soon as mine is ALMOST finished :)
ESCI released both -2 and -3 versions
