Add a few - very few - drops of a light blue to the white.

I have heard of an "Old Masters'" trick, but have not actually tried it myself:

If painting white acrylic or water-based paint....put in a few drops of "liquid bluing" (found in the laundry-items section of stores) into the white paint.

thanks, trouble is its car paint out of a can, a b/w CHP.

worth noting thanks

What did you do re preparation? I've never used lacquer paints myself but it seems odd that white paint prepared specifically for auto use would yellow. The best white I've used so far is Krylon white. It has been 3 years or more and the white still looks white, Futured or not. I don't know if Krylon is available in the UK but it might be worth checking into.

Heard of Krylon, TBH i cant remember what i did, it was yonks ago but when i stand the double varnished body next to a pre varnished body the differance is staggering.

I was under the impression thet yellowing of white occurs on oil-based paints only, because of carrier fluid (oil?)?!?

That kind of sounds logical.....but the "real world" also seems so full of exceptions. Paper yellows. White linen yellows. Our beige-ish computer cases yellow. It seems, that under prolonged exposure to UV light....just about *everything* yellows. It must just be so much more obvious with white things.

"keep the s**te stuff white"

Was that a mispelling or a Freudian slip?? :-)

It must be the varnish then.

Hi Julian,

Maybe its the varnish thats yellowing not the auto paint, IIRC Kleer doesn't yellow, why not try that over the auto paint instead of the varnish.

Let us know how you get on.

Happy modelling Ant

yes thinking about it, and looking at my decaled LAPD and LASD the white is still white, im sure that was Kleer, where as the CHP was very yellow.

I have come to that conclusion, so in that case there is hope for everyone!
