Julian--It depends on where in KY. The eastern half is Eastern time (same as NY), the western half is central time (1 hr behind), -5 hrs and -6 hrs respectively from you

Where/what area code? The state is divided midway between the Eastern and Central time zones.

Accent depends on who you're dealing with and where they are from. Native born and bred in that area will certainly have southern accent but folks can move around a good bit. Me for example. I was born in Pittsburg PA, raised in Chicago, went to school in Indiana, OCS and flight schoool in Pensacola FL, seven years on Whidbey Island in Washington state (and various aircraft carriers around the world) Monterey California then moved to Maryland and have been here for eight years. I intend to leave within five and move north to New Hampshire or Maine for final relocation. I've been lucky enough to travel to all fifty states and found there's something to like in each and every one.

Yer the reason we's all here. :) Eastern Kentuckians sound very similar to West Virginians. One of my aunts came from West Virginia and I met a mechanic who had been born in Kentucky's eastern end. They sounded very similar, very nasal. Two of the hardest accents I've had to decipher were my best man's (Cherokee from North Carolina) when I met him and a fellow in Jackson, Miss. I talked on the phone to.
