Looking up the info on the Yamato led me to ping Scott at HLJ, where I learned that Bandai is releasing a 1/350 scale model of the Space Battleship Yamato! 42,750 Yen! Lights! Sounds! Traversing turrets! Elevating barrels! Gaah! I have to have one!

Look at how much I saved! If it had been a 1/72 IJN Yamato (WWII type, not sci fi) I would have been forced to miss a few mortgage payments and buy the house next door just to display it. Hell, just to store the box!

$5500 built. I wonder what the Fujimi kit it says it's built from sells for? I know there's a whole segment of the hobby that sails these R/C, with BB-gun gauge cannon (spring loaded?). They fight in ponds and stuff, and 1/144 is the favored scale. I've seen some videos and it's pretty cool. I wonder if this kit was designed for that market?

At the SAC museum at Offut, they have a 1/35 B 52 (scratchbuilt of course) in a complete VN war dio. VERY impressive, and very well done.

I'm not sure whether it was scratch built or not.... but there was an IPMS involvement, IIRC. It's about 15 feet long.... They've used 1/72nd scale kits for the air wing, but the whole thing is absolutely stunning. It's constructed so that it can be broken down into two main pieces, I think.

That being said, where is it? It isn't in the HW wing, as I have been in that.

Last time I was there, it was on the ground floor (I wouldn't want to try to get it any higher!). To the left as you go in. It's in the house on the main drag, for want of a better description, and not in the two other museum displays (the one outside, and the large one with the Japanese sub inside and the twin 40mm mount in front.)
