saw it on the "new" section at Squadron figure it will be around 37" long?
and any particular reason they may have picked the 1975 version?

Probably same reason that the Essex was released as originally built while two other versions were released under different names with the necessary changes to reflect different time frames. Maximize the mileage of the basic kit.
