who was asking for USAF Insignia masks

Hi,

I am going to let some one cut some masks for me.

If you can tell me what it looks like, or provide me with some drawings, designs, pictures, etc. I can try to get these insignia cut too.

It will be an experiment for me too, so there will be no charge.

mail me at snipped-for-privacy@NOOOOSPAMzonnet.nl (and then delete the NOOOOSPAM, but I guess you got that)

Dennis, before you cut your masks, note that the 'bar' in the 'stars 'n' bars' is *not* placed in the middle of the circle, it is very slighty offset to the top.

I drew it some time ago in CorelDraw using Tech Order 1-1-4, and it took me a lot of time figuring out why I couldn't get it right. The top side of the upper white bar aligns with the horizontal line of the star, and the rest of the bar goes from there.

Look closely at factory printed stars 'n' bars decals and you will see it.

Well, I'll be darned! I never noticed this before so checked the Corel Draw file I made as well. It *is* offset just a bit but it's virtually imperceptible without measuring it. Interesting!

While we're on the subject another common and much more noticable error in decals is having the tips of the star in the postwar national insignia touch the edges of the blue circle. This throws off the position of the red and white areas of the bar and screws up the proportions completely.

I was drawing it using the TO 1-1-4 sketch, and even then it took me five attempts to get it right! It doesn't mention the alignment specifically, but it simply looked wrong. A correct version is best identified by the unequal length of the white horizontal bars.

I don't think I've ever seen such a decal, but the error would be very noticable indeed!
