no digicam. it was 1/35 and i did a row count on a panther picture and it was only one row off. i practiced with clay on a sheet of cardboard. you can control thickness and get it really good looking.
Campbell makes corrugated aluminum for model RR use, and it was one of the first tools we had to apply patterns to zimmerit. Thirty years ago, it was used to texture spackling plaster (which works, but the stuff took ages to dry, and it was easy to ruin until it was rock hard). If you plan to use the aluminum on a thicker putty, like a lacquer-based or epoxy putty, you may want to superglue a piece of heavy styrene to the back of the aluminum, as it will buckle if the putty gives too much resistence.
