I have an Autocad file that I would like to place into a SolidWorks file, Is it possible to place the file into SW with out making it 3D?
You can have a part file with only a sketch in it, if that's what you mean.

Do you want a drawing file or do you want it in a model.
If you want a drawing file you can insert it as a block
If you want it in a sketch of a model open the sketch select the geometry from AutoCad and copy/paste it right onto the sketch.
