Hi Matt, unfortunately all the views are created and fully dimensioned. Can the current detail view be modified to show the splined breakout or does it need to be recreated?
Matt is confused. He is starting to talk like bob z. because of this. He asks, "how does a view being fully dimensioned affect whether or not it can have broken out section added to it?". He's wondering if you aren't actually talking about detail views? He knows that these are not called breakout views, and that detail views and broken out views (not breakout) are different beasts in drafting a drawing.
Woh, what just happened to me? Sorry about that. Musta been something I ate for breakfast. So, if you are talking about detail view, you simply draw a circle around the area you want detailed and create a detailed view instead of a broken out section. It won't have squiggly lines for a view edge, but rather just a circle along the area of the part which is cut for the view. Squiggly lines are for broken out views that appear directly in the parent view and not in a separate spot on the sheet.
Thats it exactly. It would seem I have confused you by mixing the Solidworks term "breakout section" and the old drafting term "breakout detail view" I want to convert Solidworks detail views, the ones with a nice circular periphery to have a jagged line periphery as was shown in the old drafting term "breakout detail view"
Activate view from which detail is to be generated from. Sketch spline around area to be detailed. Select spline sketch, then select detail view. In FM, change Style; No Leader & use Profile instead of Circle
