is 2008 stable yet?

Actually 2008 was 'stable' from day one. We have a lot fewer crashes than what we had with 2007. Lombard's blog reported more on user interface complaints than stability issues. IMHO

We're running the 64 bit version here and I think it's getting worse with each Service Pack.

You could ask banquer about Lombard's site. I'm sure he has some choice thoughts (after the lithium wears off).

I would say no to stability. Some people seem to be having good luck, but I am not one of them. Particularly in assemblies there seems to be a lot of problems. In my case I have had to completely remate large assemblies more than once. SW seems to just decide to redo things on it's own.

Then there are the numerous crashes, some with an automatic restart and some where SW just dissappears without a whimper.

I had a big issue with drawings where views didn't align properly and sent that one in. I haven't heard of any answers to it yet. Most of the stuff that happens just happens with no rhyme or reason and what can't be documented apparently can't be fixed.

I can't say how many hours I have lost just to these two things. This is on a machine that was built up from scratch in January with just enough installed to run SW. I would have to say that I would have been better off with 2006 or 2004.

I'll stick with 2006 until at least SWks 2008 SP5. I'll probably have to upgrade then because a toolmaker insists he has to use it because "my customers do". I'll keep 2006 around as a backup for years.

I just don't have the time to waste dealing with workarounds & time wasted. I'ld love to use some of the neat new features, but not as long as they are buggy new features. Hence, I wind up upgrading late, and my VAR of course wants to charge me more $s for waiting until most of the bugs are out.

I just wish there were a more practical way for SolidWorks to do debugging in house & with its special testers and systems, so for my $2k/year then I would get the cleanest possible applications.

Exactly what are you working on that "it" is a major problem for you?

Per your recent posts you are a machine operator. Why does a machine operator need to know how the model was built or what a parts design intent is and/or how an assembly is mated?

Thanks for the worthwhile feedback TOP, there was a day when almost all the responses from this group were worthwhile.

Its kind of sad to see a few immature users have degraded this group to the point of it being useless.

I got burned so badly on SW2007, I can't imagine ever upgrading again but I think I might try with SP5

If SolidMap fixes "core" issues, how is it still an issue? If you need/want SolidMap add-in buy it, install it, issue over.

In your own words, what exactly are you doing where you need SolidMap to take information already displayed in SolidWorks and convert it into a block diagram so it is easier for you to understand?

When did you purchase and install SolidMap?
