You want Core2Duo, not CoreDuo. Get all the speed you can afford in the CPU. I'm not up to speed on Intel motherboards, but I think there is a lot of variability based on what chipset is used. If you post the motherboard specifics, others may be able to comment.

It would help to know what sort of work you intend to do, and how your current system handles it. For example, it is impossible to know how much memory you need except based on your past experience.

Marty,

Make sure you are getting an Intel Core2Duo E6600 or above. The E6600 is a 2.4 Ghz chip, the E6700 is a 2.66 Ghz chip.

As Dale says, it would help to know what you do with SW and also what your old computer specs are for comparision purposes.

Ok, I got the core2duo and the E6700 Ghz chip.

I'm working on a assembly with 128 files in it now but this is big for us. It's one of those light towers you see along the road the road crews use at night. The computer I'm running now has 2 gig of ram and it's 3 years old and wasn't the best your could get back then so it's going to be much less then what I'm getting now.

Thanks for your input!
