Europe's a big place, almost 10 million sq k. And economically, very uneven. You're in France, one of the better off places while those who intiated this thread live in Eastern Europe, one of the poorer places where people can get along fairly well on the rates they mention. And you're right, of course, that they could not live on these rates in France. But, what's your point since they, obviously, are not trying to. Are you merely (and naively, from the standpoint of economics) amazed that they can live on so "little"? Chalk it up to their recent roots in a peasant economy.

Good points, I'll go check the cost of living there next vacation. But consider that the cost of a SW licence in Europe is 6600 Eu, +/- USD

8250, and maintenance 1/4 of that: $2000, there is not much left to live from after paying it. Maybe working 7/7- 24/24.
