I know this subject has been worn to death, but I'm going to ask the question one more time. My situation: My company has merged with another company who uses ProE. We need to standardize on one CAD system. I am looking for feedback from anyone who has done a serious comparison of SW to ProE. What did you see as the main benefits of each? What were the main cons of each? What caused you to pick SW over ProE? Thanks for your input. Brian
SW vs ProE

And as per the usual everyone is supposed to know what's best for you pulling answers out of their vacuum because no one knows what the hell you do.
Is the decision your responsibility? I suggest you delegate it.
Please tell us you are not part of and/or have nothing to do with this decision making process?

is off-line again, damn!)
When I hear these questions, I immediately go to the old aphorism, "When you don't know what is going on, Look for the Money."
If you have two large engineering data sets of models, assemblies, drawings and support data, and you are talking about switching to only one system, who is going to hire the crew who does nothing but convert "old" files to the new system & who pays for it?
You can literally spend hundreds of thousands of dollars or more doing that in a moderate size engineering department.
If top management does not have a funded plan in place to make it happen 100%, it will be a hodge podge and very inefficient.

You presumably have a team of seasoned users for each. You should be telling us.
One thing that may be helpful for you is to do a search on the subject, (probably "ProE") to see what has already been talked about. Other then that, since this is a SW group, the short answer must be, that SW is just better in all ways... :-)
I know very little about ProE but a potential client of mine told me last year that he had two seats of ProE and he was paying $14,000 for the two support licenses per year. This one thing alone says that ProE is going to have to be considerably better then SW.
Hope this helps,
Ed
Well, who can argue with that? `;^)
That's a prime example of why this type of discussion is worse than worthless. Even a used car salesman should blush at such a grossly misleading statement.

just missed the $5k for Foundation Advantage, more or less comparable to SW, and ISDX (advanced surfacing) or AAX (advanced assembly) new customer offer. Bummer, huh?
Maint on two seats of Flex3C is surely pretty expensive, tho' I can't say how; maybe 30% of 24 to 36K combined, but you're talking apples and watermelons.
The last two comments offer another reason to...follow the money.
Integration costs are anything but trivial. My experience is that a typical President or CEO doesn't have a good grasp on the costs involved in mergers, because they don't know the concepts involved.

When I see someone asking questions like this on a specific message board (instead of the generic CAD boards), I'm often suspicious that it is the "opposition" looking for arguements they will need to counter when trying to promote their own product.

This would be the single greatest difference between migrating to ProE or migrating to SolidWorks. SolidWorks supports feature-based conversion of Pro/E parts and assemblies while Pro/E offers NO tools whatsoever for converting SolidWorks files into useable Pro/E files.
Feature-based conversion is not perfect - and it won't convert associated drawings - but SolidWorks' free converter works at least as well as the $45k translators on the market.
"Pure bullshit" is pretty descriptive.
`;^) For all intent and purposes: Yes, it is. `;^)
OT:.. is that like 99% pure or like almost real... or almost like WMD,.. well, as long as you have excuses to back your BS up, right?
..
Maybe someone is paying $7000 maintenance per seat which is irrelevant to a SW vs Pro/E discussion. In that context $1500 per seat of Foundation Advantage is the relevant figure. So like WMDs, being contaminated with a speck of truth, it's just High Grade bullshit.
