I just received Athearn's Santa Fe GP60M with the Warbonnet paint scheme, which looks very good. However, there are a few things folks here should know:
The unit is very light - hardly any weight inside the shell.
Athearn wasn't kidding when they said they were installing a new DCC "harness". In order to use this in DCC mode, you must have a decoder with a
9-pin JST connector! If you want to use a decoder with an 8-pin connector, you will need to do some soldering.Taking the shell off is simply a matter of removing the couplers and lifting off the shell - it's that easy.
The lights are what we've come to expect out of Athearn - tiny grain-of-wheat incandescents. However, they are nice and bright and do not require resistors.
