PDA Software?

Is there any software out there for train related stuff? It would be cool to keep track of train items, costs, versions etc... And be able to have it all at your finger tips while at shows...

Thanks, Jon.

I wish there were, but I haven't found any yet. I just got my PDA, and have been combing websites for ANYTHING cool. Haven't seen any train stuff at all. There are simple databases, though, that might work for what you'd like.

Well, I use Palm Reader to check up on this newsgroup and Docs To Go to run an Excel sheet detailing my train budget. I also have several sound files for amusement.....

I can't believe I used to live without this thing (Sony Peg-SJ33)

I keep my roster and library list on an Excel spreadsheet and use Docs to Go to read it on the Palm. It works great.

I use a Toshiba e750 Pocket PC 2003 device for this. The "Notes" application is handy because I can use the voice recorder to make comments about something if I don't have time to write it down - then I can transcribe it later. I could also scribble out a diagram in the same application - if I get an idea for a track arrangement from a show module or something. And finally, I can fire it up and make notes with the stylus while wandering the aisles of my local hobby shop (things like price, etc.).

In cases where I want to keep track of total cost, I can use Pocket Excel (which comes standard with every Pocket PC) and I can even track my hobby spending in Pocket Money (which also comes with the Pocket PC) and is handy since I use Money to track my hobby spending at home anyway.

Best of all, the Toshiba e750 has a built-in WiFi (802.llb) wireless adapter that allows me to connect to wireless networks that might be running in a train show venue nowadays (or at least in a coffee shop down the street). This means that I can use Pocket MSN Messenger to let my friends know if I see something they might like (maybe I'd pick it up for them) or I can use Pocket Internet Explorer to research the Walthers and eBay pricing to see if a particular item is at a good price.

You might look at Locopalm.com. There is a digitrax throttle (it works, I have it, thought it is harder than using a DT400), and some other stuff. I've not seen any updates in a year or so, and the Digitrax programmer is still in an early test phase. I'd like the programmer and an inventory program more than a throttle, etc. that way, I could keep track of rolling stock and locos and keep a convenient memory of programming.

There is the Digitrax windows programmer, but I find that it is unreliable at best.

I use JFile on my Palm V. It's a pretty generic database that you can easily customize to your needs.

I have a Jornada, that appears to be dying, but I use HandDBase - a neat little database that you can build and modify. I keep track of all my roling stock there, and am startign to list the costs, etc - tho that will have to be a secure DB to protect me from "the boss".
