Powering manual switches

Nov 28, 2005 4 Replies

My HO layout consists of a few Atlas 542 and 543 snap switched. They currently have Caboose Industry HO operating ground throws. My layout has 3 inches of foam board. I would like some sugestions on what would be the best way to power the switches for remote control. BTW: I am using DCC to run my layout and the switches do not have to be DCC based remote throws.

Thanks,

Kurt

I like the Tortoise motors. You will need to use a longer and slightly heavier gauge wire, but it will work very well.

Yes, I too have used Tortises through 4" of foam and 1/2" of plywood. Just need a longer and stiffer wire.

What gauge wire did you use to go through the 4 1/2 inch of material.

I use 0.047 music wire. You have to drill out the hole for the wire on the switch machine to accomodate the larger diameter wire.
