I have 4 Lionel Challengers; 3 ran perfectly out of the box and one needed a very minor adjustment of the siderods to avoid interference and consequent rough running. Try setting CV2 to 15, CV 3 to 10 or 15, and CV 4 to 10 or 15. These are good initial settings, for me, to obtain very smooth operation and a hint of momentum.
