Here in Tampa,FL I have marble sized tomatoes in the garden and am eating homegrown radishes. And if I can get the wiring done in the garage I can start turning the lumber stacked in the corner into my new layout.

It ~IS~ fall as of last week. Winter will be on hand soon.

So what's the temperature about now down under where you are? Since the Animal channel is the most popular tv channel in my household the most I ever actually see of OZ is from shows like the "Crocodile Hunter" where this guy goes out and finds all sorts nasty critters then does everything possible to piss them off. It seems that you all have a very large variety of venomous cold blooded animals all over the place and the Crocodile Hunter is always warring shorts. Does it ever get really cold? Most of the Aussie model railroads I've seen look like Texas or the Southeast. Its a big country so I suppose there must be wide range of temperature zones. Bruce

Ask G. Procter. He's at about the same latitude as Minnesota. I know it gets perishing cold on Mt. Erebus this time of year. No trains to watch there either.

We do. They mostly congregate in Canberra at Parliament - oh, sorry, you were talking about native reptiles, weren't you? Yeah, we got plenty of them, too. But like most things that bite, if you stay away from them, they'll stay away from you.

'kenoath it does. In the south of the continent there's snowfields in NSW and Victoria. Then there's Blayney - renowned for it's bone-chilling misery in winter. Lithgow is another cold, bleak, bastard of a place.

There certainly is. We have hot, bloody hot, bloody hot and humid, bloody hot and bloody wet, bloody hot and dry, and friggen' cold, often in the same place on the same day! :-)

Having spent a fair amount of time in SF I can say I have never seen hot. OTOH my uncle from SF was complaining bitterly of the heat at 85 F in Los Angeles. Phoenix is more to my liking.

AREA!!! Next time head toward the East Bay, Fremont, Pleasanton, Livermore. A few weeks ago we were scrapping ice off the windshield in the morning, 80's in the afternoon.

Get out to Concord or Walnut Creek. It's hot out there. Both places are considered to be in the "area".

Yesterday it was 14C/57F in my house when I got up, turned a/c to heat and raised to 20C/68F, went up to about 22 outside. This was first for season but the summer has been much cooler than normal, only about 10 days above 40C. I could have worn a jersey & long pants but would have had to change into shorts about 10am. We have had 2 days of very welcome rain after having had almost none since November, which was the cause of the cold morning. Was 22 outside today at 3pm and 22 inside now at 11.15pm, no heat needed, 22 to 27 is just right for me.
