Sadly... no.

Microsoft TrainSim was to be developed for OS-X as part of the "Microsoft love Apple, no, really we do" deal made in 2002, but the plans were shelved when TrainSim's sales were less than spectacular. :o(

If you've got a few spare beads and a beefy enough Mac, there's no reason at all why you shouldn't get Virtual PC with Windows XP installed, then you could run both MS TrainSim and Auran's wonderful Trainz Railroad Simulator

2004. Check!

What a cruel thing to do to your Mac!

We had a guy in Orlando that did it that way...

Interesting thing is, he could boot up in Mac, then Virtual PC into M$TrainSim faster than a Windows machine - and it ran smoother on the Mac, too.

Somehow, I'm not surprised by that!

Totally!

Or should it be, "What a nice thing to do to Windows!" At least it'll be

4,000,000,000,000 times more stable!

(that may be a slight exaggeration ;o)

I'm not sure, but I thought I remember reading somewhere that Virtual PC was incompatible with the newest OS-X Macs and since Microsoft bought out the company that made Virtual PC they had no intention of quickly updating it to work with OS-X.

I have an older pre OS-X Mac and Virtual PC Win98 and PC programs run a lot slower on it.

You're half-right. Virtual PC will run on OS-X but only in "Classic" mode. And it's true that's operations are slower, but you can't have everything!

It is the G5 macs that it is incompatible with. G4 machines still work with VPC under recent versions of 10.2.

hmm.. too bad!

I don't own VirtualPC and honestly don't bother running Windows on my Mac, a neat Freeware/Public Domain/Shareware app would have done..

There's go-gol-cho-cho

but it looks more like a neat railroad related game.

Does that mean at roughly 9/18/2003 3:11 pm, the person described as 'Whokid' was also half-right?

Simple answer? Not just no, but, HELL NO!

Macs are for artists and wingnuts, not for the majority of us. Most of us were weaned on PC's in our office/business atmosphere and then carried that train of thought over to our home computers. That's why the MS Windows based PC's will win and in twenty years, you may be asked by someone much younger than you, "Apple? Mac? What's that? ... Oh, was what they played, like, 8-track tapes on?"

Macs are worthless for business use. Good luck finding a good Contact Administration software, like ACT, for Mac!

I suppose that you place educator/education into that group as well! I am neither an artists or wingnut (what ever that is). I am a computer software test engineer. I would much rather have a Mac, which I am using as this is written, than any PC ever made. It doesn't crash, I don't have to always reboot, and I can produce as much crap as the next guy running a PC! I suppose that you have never done much of anything on a Macintosh. At least with OS X, they have provided a basis for running any kind of software, including most, if not all, business related software.

Yes, it is sad that there is no train simulation software for the Mac OS. But only because the producers of such software don't realize that developing such software for the Mac platform would open up another dimension to their business and provide them with even more money.

Actually, if you think about it, in twenty years pretty much everything we have right now will be in the same category.

What's important right now, is what's available right now!

Nothing wrong with Macs or PC's. Run one of the *ixes on them they run just fine. *8->

I will be buying a new desktop in about 12-18 months. It will probably be a Mac G-5. Drool!

And I'll keep the fastest Intel box for Linux, OS/2 Warp4/FP15, and, oh, yeah, what's that OS you need for Train Sim? Win-duhs, yeah, that's it.

Given that the original question concerned train simulation software, made no mention mention of business software, and was posted on a model railroad newsgroup, your comments regarding the availability of business software for Macs are completely irrelevant. And while we're at it, a wingnut is...?
