Barleylands

Anyone going to Barleylands this year? I will be there for the whole weekend and will welcome any opportunity to meet up, say at the beer tent.

I'll be there on Sunday (not exhibiting this year - just getting over the sun-burn from last weekend!). What time?

Regards

Mark

My brother Geoff and I will be going as ordinary punters, probably on the Saturday. I'll keep an eye open for familiar names and faces in the engine areas.

Might be difficult to make contact at the beer tent as it is large and normally crowded. How about 1pm at my engine, Amanco Hired Man, H1 pump, should be in the usual place which is, face the Gardner, turn right, go to the end of the pen and turn left, I should be in the middle of that row in front of the silver Discovery?

Martin, I agree that Haddenham is a great Rally, lets hope that it does not clash next year and we can do it as well as Barleylands.

Early rain threatened to dampen enthusiasm but persisted only just long enough to get soaked walking back to the car park to fetch the umbrella forgotten first time round! After that, though it remained rather murky, there were only a few spots of actual rain.

A good turn out of 'posh' engines, with Wayne Timms' Mietz being my particular favourite, and the mixture well leavened (more so than Welland) with what some might regard as more mundane stuff, which for me only adds to the variety and interest. In fact, if there was one engine I'd like to have taken home, it would probably have been the Enfield 'sloper' diesel pulled from a vibrating roller.

Helen had a great time buying up most of the food hall (the pork pies, cheese and cider made a delicious supper) and investing in some craft jewellery, then humoured me with a customary last walk round the engines. Only thing missing at this rally is any significant junk stalls, but I bought a magneto and a petrol tank from exhibitors.

All in a very fine Day Out :-)

Good show as usual with plenty to suit all tastes. Saw Nick H briefly on Saturday but no one else came along to say hello :-(

Weather was reasonable considering all the horror stories we were hearing of thunderstorms nearby and there was a rumour that they were pulling them off at Haddenham on Sunday morning. Martin, can you confirm or deny?

Pete,

We had showers on Saturday five mins at a time two or three times during day, the organisers put straw down on the Saturday on the main exit road as caution. Everything including the steamers went round the ring. Sunday overcast but no rain, nothing got pulled off at all and I could see the gate from my spot. Sunday afternoon everybody got packed up from four on and as you know its quite steep up hill to the gate. I got stuck at the top of the ridge for no other reason than my stupid daughter decided to stop forty foot short of a vehicle which meant I had to stop behind her but three lads pushed my van with caravan in tow and after about six foot I was under my own steam. Saw a large tractor towing an Artic with steamer on otherwise it was a good weekend all round. Nothing left until Sunday evening. Photo's up tonight I hope.

Martin,

Glad to hear that there were no real problems, it was this "doom and gloom" merchant spreading rumours that made me wonder if it was true.

My pictures will be some time as I am currently seven rallies behind.....
