Bearing remetaling

Hi folks. I have a some engines in my collection with worn bearings and i've had some astronomical quotes for remetaling them. So i would like to have a go at metaling them myself, but i dont really know were to start. Does anyone on NG know of a book or have any advice on the subject?? I have looked on the net but so far drawn a blank any ideas??. Thanks in advance. Regards, Gary M

If these are whitemetal bearings (I assume they are) try doing a goggle search on Babbit, Babbitt or whitemetal bearings. There's some useful stuff out there.

Indeed yes. After several years and many bearings I get about 9 out of 10 right. The Hoyt bearing book is the best help I've found. I don't know if copies are still available but the old ones turn up on Ebay and ABE from time to time. As Mark says there are many websites but in my amateur opinion they range from very good to utter crap regards Roland

See my earlier post for a source of quality new metal and the right flux which at least makes putting WM in Alu and CI possible! regards Roland
