If there is still time, is there a possibility of SE magazine sponsoring a "keep it here" campaign and asking for donations to the Anson to ensure this unique engine stays here.

I have often mused over the possibility of having a national fund that could be used to ensure that engines of National importance could be bought, and allowing us all the enjoyment of seeing them. Our government/heritage systems appear not to have any means by which we can prevent such loses to the Nation.If it was a work of art well......................

To most of us such things are works of art but sadly I doubt any Quango will see it that way. However we could lobby for legislation like that passed in Oz to prevent such things being exported. That would have several benefits

Geoff's patron at the Anson, Sir Nicholas Winterton springs to mind as someone who might provide guidance.

Geoff, I know time is short, but have a word with HLF's North West Office in Manchester about a fast track application for a grant to buy it, also Re:source in London who hold the PRISM fund. If the engine is in the UK, we are now signed up to the UNESCO treaty on movement of cultural items and this includes historic engines! I haven't got the time myself aty present, but HLF WILL move heaven & earth if you talk to them.
