While searching for a carb this came to light. Anyone able to put a name to this one? It is on a grasscutter. No name for mower manufacturer. The owner is in contact with the Lawn Mower Club GB but has drawn a blank. The carb is a brass Solex updraught with barrel throttle. Capacity not known. Rollers and cylinder missing. It is in quite a sorry state. The aluminium is crumbling in places and gears well worn. Not sure yet if complete.

I've asked for a photo of the top of the cylinder and ports.

Thanks in advance.

I know it is bad form to answer one's own questions, but having been contacted by email, a phone call last night to an authority on such machines, gave the name of Simms, possibly 6hp, and depending on which model of Ransomme mower it was originally fitted on, possibly as early as 1904.

My thanks to the gentlemen who passed the message along the grapevine.
