Future availability of Lister D & Bamford

I'm likely to be put into an invidious position in the next few weeks as an older gentleman for whom I have the greatest respect wants to return a favour - & pay a debt - by giving me two of his stationary engines, a Lister D and (from the description) a Bamford tulip top - although I've not seen it, it being in another shed from the one he usually hides from his wife in ;o))

Aside from the fact that this will not amuse Hazel at all, they don't interest me either, so I'll be discretely moving them on. I can price the Lister myself, but have no idea what the Bamford might fetch.

I'm likely to fit the mag, (stored separately) get it going and paint it decently - say Class 2. What sort of prices do they fetch and is anyone here interested before I advertise it elsewhere?

Tulip top Bamford (LT ign. hit-and-miss?) has to be one of the most desirable of the 'classic' open crank farm engines (not for me you understand - I scratched that particular itch many years ago) so I don't imagine you are looking at much less than a grand in ready to rally condition nowadays.

Waiting to be shot down in flames ;-)

Kim,

I dont think that Nick is too far away from the mark (top end price though), but depends on condition. You say you may paint it? If it is in original condition, I would leave it for sure.

Tulip Top prices:

It depends on the engine. I'm assuming it to be mechanically sound, with a good mag and without the obligatory rotten tank!

Dan quoted some prices a little while ago, which seemed sensible to me.

Wico EK Mag £750/800ish if all there and original trolley might push it on a little more.

Webster £900/1000 complete, and with original Bam trolley, proper silencer and tank Originality gets more critical as the price goes up!

Its one of those engines I would like for my collection of Bamfords (6 at present) but I can't afford it.

Arthur,

Come on Arthur, your supposed saving for that Foden Wagon !! :-)

Kim,

I would personally be inclined to put it in an Auction such as Cheffins, then you know you get something like market value. Or dare I say... Ebay ? It has been a good way for us to sell a few engines.

Well, that's come as a surprise! I'd not have thought it'd fetch that.

Still, jolly good ;o)) - although I'll have to come clean and share it with him as I like to sleep at nights and he didn't owe me THAT much!

Thanks everyone.
