Now what did I write - something along the lines of "It's not often one can claim with some confidence to have something unique in the stationary engine world..........etc" ?
Well truly pride comes before a fall and no sooner had the December issue of SEM hit the news stands than I recieved an email, from David Edgington no less, saying what amounted to; "Ah, Inglis - one of Charles Hudson's favourites" and attaching a small advertisement dated May 1926 for same. So now it appears that, far from being unique and obscure, the Inglis was in fact well known to the founding fathers of our hobby!
Presumably Mr. Inglis bought up ABC's surplus stock of engines when the scooter craze ended in the mid 1920's and had a thriving little business for a while selling them on. He was possibly not the only one either, have a look at Dignus Engineering in Patrick Knight's A-Z.
All this means there are probably others out there - check your sheds!
