Machining needed.

I need a couple of bits made and wondered if anyone here was able to help. I don't expect a freebie and am happy to pay in drinking vouchers ;o))

Firstly, I need a tapered hole bored in one end of about a foot of (say) 1" square bar. It is to fit the starting handle shaft on the ABC Vee 4 and I can make up a starting handle from there. It is a permanent fitting, so there is no ratchet to cut or anything.

The other will require a bit of milling, but nothing desperate. The magneto drive on the ABC has a strange rubber bush into which fits a four flanged driven dog. Imagine a cylindrical bit of bar into the face of which are drilled four vertical holes, their bores just touching. The outer part will then drop away, leaving a four pointed "star". It will also need a tapered bore to fit the magneto shaft - I'll need two of them.

Mild steel should be fine.

From memory this sounds similar to the mag coupling on a Calibrator equipped Petter M - Roland?

Can you give a bit more information on the taper. Diameter, length and angle of taper to start. Tapers are particularly difficult to get right. Even a slight error on the angle and they just don't seat. I tried making a morse taper adaptor once. The coupling sounds like a standard type. Have you tried your local power transmission shop? BSL etc may recognise it and supply one ready made. Good luck
