Norman Spares URGENT!

Switched on the PC for the first time in a week to find the following disturbing email from John Graham:-

............................................................................ ............................................................................ ............................................................................ ....................

Hi Nick

Roy Sparks phoned me earlier from his place at Deptford and during the discussion I asked him if he had many spares left and he said about a lorry load! I asked him what was to happen to them and he said that if no one came forward by next week they were all going to the tip along with the records, paper work etc. This would be a shame.

In Scotland I am too far away to take any real interest in the spares and he is naturally not keen to separate the records since they might go with the spares.

I know that Philip Gallimore waas interested at one time. I tried to phone him tonight but got no reply. Unless he or someone else takes over out they will all go. The main problem seems to be that one would have to go to Deptford and collect the parts since he is not in a position to crate them all up from his end.

Probably the best thing is to give Sparks Gallimores tel number and let him take it from there. It certainly would be a shame if everything was thrown out.

He also has various T300s including a brand new one complete with fuel tank. He also has a T600.

............................................................................ ............................................................................ ............................................................................ ....................

Is there anyone out there in NG land who could take this on, and never mind the cries of "oh, you shouldn't have posted that in case some nasty dealer is reading" - anything is better than seeing this lot go to the tip!

It's more a question of storage space as much as anything, and the records should be kept for future users.

I have no interest in either particularly, but can get involved if nobody else is able to.

I managed to get in touch with Phillip Gallimore on his mobile & he says he would like to get the engine parts & the records. He is on route to the Welsh victorian day but will be at home tonight.

will be at home tonight.

Just to keep up to date. John Graham passed me Roy Sparkes phone number which I gave to Phillip Gallimore. Phillip has just rang me to say that negotiations are in progress & would I pass on his thanks to this group for the help we have been. Speed was essential as Roy returns to Canada in about a week.

I've also passed Roy's details on to Paul at Intenal Fire. One way or another I do hope we get a positive result.

Looks like Norman helpline advisor Phillip Gallimore is keen to take this on.

13-05-07, Phillip reports as follows:-

"The mission has been a success !!!!

I have about 1 tonne of various Norman spares here and more importantly some Norman records from 1945 onwards, and many of the original blueprints.

Roy was very relieved that everything has gone to a good home and that it will be used to keep Norman engines running for more years to come.

Thanks for all your help, and also those in your engine usergroup including John Graham and Dave Croft. It was pretty short notice, but everyone pulled together and saved the day. Well done !!"

I think a collective pat on he back is due :-)
