I need a fabricator to make me an oil tank for a 1936 International Norton. Can anyone help?

Hi Kim

Do you want someone who can make you a 'metal box' that holds oil or do you want something that looks just like an original Inter oil tank?

The former is easy enough especially if you have a manky one to get the dimensions from although the filler and cap may need a bit of ingenuity

- or a donor tank of some kind.

If you want a replica part, thats a very different proposition.

Either way you could do worse than to look at the classifieds in Old Bike Mart - but I would suspect that you have already looked there, although you may be talking serious amounts of cash for one of the 'specialists' who advertise there.

I take it that the geniune item, new or used, is made from unobtanium?

Thanks for the various suggestions both on and off list.

I have had a very good response to this question & the most sensible one was "try Frank the Tank". What a Good Idea, he can weld, fabricate, make up unions etc AND pressure test the end product! So I phoned him.

Turns out that he has made them before and - dang me - used to race an Inter in club events! I have now packed up my original tank in bubble wrap, printed various photos of what I want, done some sketches and written up what I want. Tomorrow, it will be on its way to Goole.

More news as it happens - I don't suppose anyone else wants one do they?
