Re: OT: Am I being Picky

What do you expect from a fictional program, accuracy? This is obviously one of those variable morphing aircraft.

My favourite is some years old now but the evening news was telling of yet another strike. This was of BL delivery drivers causing a stockpile of cars. To prove the point they showed an aerial shot of a huge car park full of ........... Ford Escorts.

No, not at all.

Working with the TV industry from time to time, I'm probably more aware than most of the inaccuracies that are foisted upon the viewer, often in the clear expectation that they will know no better. I've attended pre production meetings where this was actually said out loud!

Last night I watched "The Company" and was amused to see a late version C130 Fat Albert flying over Germany in 1953, three years before the first production aircraft rolled off the line and long before they were Current Ware in that theatre.

The lack of planning, last minute panics over everything from props to battery supply, catering to make up is endemic and it is a wonder to me that anything ever reaches our screens! These days, it is only drama that has any decent money attached to it and dramadocs, History and Discovery Channel (et al) documentaries cost peanuts to shoot & look like it too.

I'm sure I once watched footage of the Enola Gay flying off to Japan, making the sound of a Tiger Moth...

I wish, the real money is with sport, particulary football.

The real cheap telly is the daytime pennies from the attic boot sale dash or the house renovation stuff. Drama doc is middle of the range.

Picky. I'm sure they register them wherever is cheapest. Some smaller airlines also lease their fleets, and I imagine these are registered by the owners, not the operators.

Morphing between aircraft models is a bit much though. There can;t be a shortage of aircraft stock footage.

I must apologise for asking such a silly question, I have just looked it up in one of my books and found out the following; Its a team game played by two teams of eleven men who skills are kicking a round bag of wind whilst being over rated and over paid. I understand now :-))

Whilst we are about it, in the background of Top Gear's airfield antics, there is a 747 with an unusual engine configuration of two engines on the same (inner) pylon and tanks outboard. The engines have unusual nozzles too - is this a short range version or summut?

I've Googled it, but not come up with a satisfactory answer.

I could be wrong, but I think it was used as an engine testbed before being parked and left to rot.

Gawd bless yer - another nagging thing off my mind. Except it has been replaced with the curious "where did they get the double engine pods from?". I bet they didn't conjure them from nothing .,..............

The scrap pile at Hannigfield, AFAIK, same as the set-dressing in most Bond films.

They're probably genuine engines, they just swallowed one chicken too many and stopped letting the right sort of smoke out.

Don't forget that 747s also have 6 engines anyway. There's an APU in the tail and there's also a spare 3rd hardpoint on one wing, for use in ferrying engines around (non-operational)

Almost certainly a mockup from the scenery department, look at the nice clean paint at the rear which has never seen fire and the messy horizontal joint down the side of the engine where you would expect to see inspection joints.
