Hi Peter, this had me puzzled when it arrived last night. The picture came as a small attachment. (6.85KB) I thought JPEG images were forbidden in this newsgroup but this small one got through. I have E Mailed it to you as your system doesn't seem to see it.

Have you considered fitting a different model of starter? The CA45 doesn't have a 'nose' with support bearing, though the motor body is probably a bit longer & it's perhaps more powerful than you need, or some Bosch models of the equivalent size have a much shorter nose than the M45G A *good* specialist auto/marine electrical firm should be able to give you some help over what might be adapted to fit. Where are you?

Well, they're ok so long as you don't use them when the battery voltage is down, & as long as you don't have to dismantle them yourself

We used to run a couple of hotel boats with Armstrong Siddeley air-cooled diesels in. These came with M45G starters as standard, Bendix type rather than pre-engaged. They were a complete pain, as the motor wasn't powerful enough, plus the armstrongs weren't easy starters & would often cough & splutter a bit before firing properly, so throwing out the Bendix. We eventually replaced them, one with a BS5 & the other with a CA45, & never looked back!

Also ran a couple of Lister HA/B 2's, which always had CA45 starters, I do remember trying to strip one down to bodge it up in a field somewhere, not my idea of fun :-(

Barry has an M45G starter motor on the shelf for a Lister, but it is not the same as the photograph. Vince and Barry suggest you give them a call to sort it out directly, or you could send the old unit for them to overhaul at their workshops here in Luton.
