I've never had an article appear exactly as originally written (though I'll admit the changes are sometimes for the better!) but when they drop a big boo boo like that, it *&^%'s me off so much that I find I have very little inclination to repeat the exercise for quite some time.

Gentlemen,

You may have noticed that my Article had a rather useless ending, SEM in their wisdom decided to change the Title, had they left it as I wrote it it would have been in Welsh with the English version subtitled a " A good day for the ducks" which would have then made sense at the end.

Nick, I have been the same but this time I have stuck with it and as long as most of it is correct I not worried to much but I agree its a pain.

There have been similar complaints about this sort of thing in the past & I fully appreciate the feeling as I labour long & hard over my text. I check it for content, spelling, grammar etc. Then Hazel gets the fun of reading it (Grammar school girl!) and usually NHH get a sight of it before submission.

If I have concerns, I ask that any changes be notified to me in advance of publication and I can say that this has been the case in the past. However, if you don't ask for editorial control, any editor worth his/her salt *will* edit! I get occasional flack from contributors to the Wessex newsletter because I DO edit stuff I'm given & it rarely survives unmodified. Grammar & spelling is corrected & sometimes whole paragraphs are moved up or down so the piece makes more sense. The Chairman insisted that his report MUST "be printed as received" - so I naturally extend him that courtesy, but his report always carries the addenda "printed as received".

The only changes made to my ABC articles were consistent with ending in a particular place so as to complete the narrative for that edition.

Regards,
