You missed my point Martin. Whilst the engine is simple x 8, it is only one thing in a very complicated device having many systems - cooling, ignition, lighting, instrumentation, charging, steering, braking. Then there is the bodywork, seating, controls etc ......
A stationary engine is just an engine - and usually a simple one at that!
A Classic car magazine will necessarily be able to fill its pages with articles on the myriad of things I've indicated without repetition for years and years. Even my quite wordy articles on the esoteric little engines that I enjoy don't run to 3,000 words.
