WD 2 question

Hi folks

On the side of the block on a wolseley WD2 there is a knurled round knob attached to what feels like a spring. Any body know what it is supposed to do?

Cheers

This knob adjusts the spring tension on the governor and basically controls (to a degree!) the speed of the engine.

Wind it one way and you will feel the spring get tighter and if memory serves me right the engine speed will increase and vice versa when wound the other way..!

You will find more Wolseley info on our website (which incidentally is very much work in progress!) Regards David

As mentioned, it's the governor adjuster.

On my first WD2, someone had mangled this device - well, rather more replaced all the bits with other superficially similar bits. I'd imagine the whole assembly had been robbed off it and later been replaced by someone who'd heard one described.;o))

It had a minimal effect on the engine's revolutions until they rose beyond about 500 RPM, when it stuck wide open and got all excited, leaping about in a most agitated fashion, spilling water out of the hopper and digging itself four little ruts in the lawn. Luckily, I've been around engines for long enough to have the wit not to put the screw on the plug terminal until I know something of its foibles and a flick with a stick soon restored it to frustrated silence.

"Is it supposed to do that?" said Hazel .........
