Looks like a machine that the Russians might have made! No shielding and 5 bob a day childlessness allowance for the operators. It is intriguing to contemplate just which type of reactor was envisaged, especially noting the lack of water tanks and condensing equipment! Equally the geared turbine and cranked drives indicates a rather low tech idea when others were playing with thermo/electrical type transmissions. As driving in(or out) the control rods is a minor adjustment for fuel poisoning corrections in a PWR once it is flashed up to working pressure and temp (they being self regulating under varying loads) the only reason to drop the rods is for a rapid shut down (scram) so it would equate to the emergency stop button/switch.
