EFE Tube trains

Hi all.

Anyone out there motorised an EFE Tube train?

If so, have you used new couplings and what type please?

My plastic ones look as though they won't last long.

Cheers

I've done it with Tenshodo 24.5mm WB SPUD bogies - two are needed for a four-car train, preferably electrically connected to give smooth running over points, and with as much weight added as possible to improve traction. I also replaced the non-powered wheels with Romfords.

I use the short plastic couplings, but the car ends touch on 2nd radius curves. I managed to break off one of the small plastic bogie hooks, but that bogie is now on an end car. It's not a very practical system, but I don't know what they can be replaced with in such a small space, unless you fabricate something out of sheet metal or wire.

BTW to disassemble a car, carefully prise off the underframe moulding, which is glued on, to give access to the screws holding the floor unit.
