Exhibition layout

We are in the process of designing an exhibition layout and a problem that we are facing is what is the best method of connecting track between each table.

I have seen:-

  1. Butting up with the track attached to a PCB and with screws for last minute adjustment.
  2. Drop in section of track then moving the track connection parts.

The problems with above:-

  1. to ensure that the tables are accurately connected.
  2. has the difficulty of moving the fishplates and getting a good electrical connection.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Use T&G boards with dowels let into underboard spanning strips which are fixed to one side.

Yeh. What the other bloke said.

Use matel dowels to aline the boards when joined together. hold them together with with coach bolts / wing nuts.

With the two boards bolted up and level, fix the track down across the board joint. Don't get suckered into having a short length of track on either side. Make the nearest break in track at least 6" away if possible. Where the track crosses the joint remove two sleepers on aech board and replace with brass countersunk screews. put these in first and screw down to below rail level. Once the rail is laid over them, bring them back up to just touching the underside of the rail. Solder the rails to them. Now with a razor saw, cut through the rails immediately above and in line with the board joint. Once the boards are separated, you can fill in between the screws with missing bits of sleeper and balast around them to hide most of what has been done.

Takes longer to type than the actually do it.

Hope it helps.
