Hornby 2006 - the list (long!)

Descriptions have been tinkered about with to save me having to type out things like the wheel arrangements for locos I'm sure you're all familiar with. I make apologies in advance for any speeling errors or R-number duplications, I've not had time to check the list thoroughly after typing. :)

I think you would find it would be a Sentinel !

Anyway, better than the miss print in an old 'Observers' book I have, suggesting that the non Caprotti Black 5's were of a 4-6-9 wheel arrangement - presumably they were the version that worked the North Wales rack railways!... :~)

I'd have thought that a Sentinel shunter would be an 0-2+2-0T, if not it would be an 0-4-0T

Rebuilt in April 1959

Never Rebuilt

Rebuilt in September 1957

Rebuilt in October 1958

One of the original "Urie Arthurs" with the 5,000 gallon 8 wheel bogie tender

One of the North British built "Scotch Arthurs", built to the composite loading guage( smaller cylinders), but with Urie pattern 5,000 gallon bogie tender.

One of the final batch of "Eastleigh Arthurs" which had the 6 wheel

3,500 gallon tender for use on the eastern section boat trains. Sir Dinadan was part of this batch.

One of the first batch of "Eastleigh Arthurs" reusing the 4,250 gallon Drummond 8 wheel bogie tenders of the G14's they replaced.

These numbers are the same (albeit with different letters) as the generic GW coaches painted green. :(

Thanks for posting this, Rich. Plenty of mouth-watering stuff there which I'm sure many of us are looking forward to seeing in the plastic, so to speak!!!

Cheers, John.

The wheels were coupled but by chains from the steam motor, nor by rods.

In modern parlance they would be B.

What John was suggesting was the loco had two engine units (sharing one boiler and controls) powering separate axles, hence the 2+2, so in European (not modern [1]) parlance it would either be a A+A or B wheel arrangement depending on how many 'engines' the loco had.

[1] Bulleid stated to use the European wheel arrangement codes with his MN, BB/WC and Q1 classes (but not the Leader class), hence the loco numbering system, for example 21C1 [that became 35001 under BR ownership) Channel Packet or C1 (33001) for the first Q1 class loco.
