Martin, in my opinion you support Templot and its users in a way that most other software houses could learn from but perhaps cannot afford. No decent person could ask for more.

Hmm, is there any *trail software* (not freeware or shareware) that offers support prior to purchase?
Except to be able to (without support and at own risk) try the software out (with limitations to stop people from benefiting from any print out or what ever) to find out what it will do and how the graphical / keyboard inter-face 'feels' like - there is some software around that although entreatingly good has a most kack handed and illogical GUI or KBI that makes it unusable to some, this only ever come to light from actual use as it's a 'personal thing'.
Hi Jerry,
You have lost me there. We are discussing Templot, not any other product. I can't speak for any product other than Templot, you must ask their suppliers.
What other products do or don't do has no relevance at all to what I can offer Templot users and the resources I have available to support Templot.
We seem to be going round in circles. Apologies to Keith whose original question has got lost in all this.
Martin.
I knew I was making a mistake responding to our resident troll :-)
Jim.
Hi Jerry,
Templot is a workshop tool for *modellers*. Trying Templot means printing some templates and building some track on them, not fussing about which button you had to press or how many clicks it took.
If your interest in Templot is as a software critic I can tell you without your even trying it that you won't like it. Please don't buy it.
Martin.
No, if you want to try your hand at building points from templates one can buy commercial templates from the same companies that sell the components etc. Templot is a CAD tool - how ever much you as the writer try to suggest that it's more - if it's going to take two days just to produce two basic templates (as one of your customers suggested it took him) it might well be better to save ones money...
We are talking about Templot and the reason you gave for not offering a trail version, why you think that you will be snowed under from support queries if they are not allowed with a trail version beats me... Come to think, are you not being snowed under in your 'groups' from people who want information as to how and what the software does because they can't see for themselves?!
This 'support' problem looks ,ore like a smoke screen than a legitimate reason for not offering a trail version.
Stop talking to yourself then...
Hi Jerry,
For the umpteenth time of my saying so -- TEMPLOT IS NOT CAD. Have you actually looked at the Templot web site?
??? I think "days" must have been a typo for "clicks"!
Please do save your money. It's blindingly obvious that Templot is not for you.
regards,
Martin.
Yes, it really was a mistake :-)
Jim.
Have you not grasped that Templot is NOT for "trying your hand at building points from templates" - you can buy such templates from a variety of suppliers. Templot is, IMHO, best used to design a complete layout.
Yes it is CAD, it's computer aided design software. - or are you suggesting that it actually doesn't produce working templates...
That's what I said, lean to read!
Hi Jerry,
If you ask CAD users who have tried Templot, you will find them all in agreement that Templot isn't CAD as generally understood.
Certainly I advise any CAD-experienced user looking at Templot not to expect it to be a CAD-like package. Often those with CAD experience are the ones who have the greatest difficulty learning to use Templot.
regards,
Martin.

Well, you can't do that with Templot. Accept that and get on with your life.
Martin, you really ought to have a trial period for Templot-users-to-be. Those, like Jerry, who does not fit in, should not be allowed to purchase Templot.
Boys! Boys.
Calm Down!!
Sorry, I couldn't resist that.
You have fallen into Jerry's trap I'm afraid.
I think he is the very same Jerry who pops his head about the horizon now and again just to start arguments like this. I think it's a newsgroup form of Touretts or similar.
He just has to argue.
He'd probably never be a customer for Templot anyway.
Put him in you Block list and let him rant to himself. You can always tell the trolls when they resort to swearing even if there are a few
**** slipped in.Cheers
