Re: Beginner questions

Ah. You live and learn. Better tell Model Railroader not to refer to themselves as "MR" then. Besides, Model Railroader's been around a lot longer than Model Rail. :-)

In my day, there was Railway Modeller, Model Railway Craftsman and Model Railway News.

I have a diagram drawn up in TrainCad (free download) that I could send you, or I could scan it as a jpg to send or post on the web. Most of the layout is based on Peco Setrack 2nd and 3rd radius, although I will use mostly flextrack. Part of my outer loop is 22" (546mm), equivalent to the largest Atlas Snap-Track radius.

You can contact me at msmodels(at)cogeco.ca.

Bit muddled here Roger, the UK mag was the Model Railway Constructor the US has Model Railroad Craftsman, but if you use MRC you are pretty safe.

Should I keep buying Model Railroader/Railway Modeller/Continental Modeller in the hope that the current edition might at last have some interesting content? (delete title as appropriate ;-)

Thanks for the correction there Keith. Of course, your correct, "Model Railway Constructor".

However, the American magazine is Railroad Model Craftsman. :-)

I wasn't sure and it's a four hour drive to the model shop!

I can only buy by mail order so perhaps it's worth buying the mag.

Why would anyone want to detail _Diesels_? ;-)

I've never previously heard of Model Rail! The US MR has been around even longer than I have.

I generally find enough of interest in Model Railroader to justify its cost, and I renewed for 3 years which reduces the incentive to stop because of one or two poor issues. The other two I check on the newstand and end up buying two or three a year between them. Model Railway Journal I subscribe to and always enjoy. British Railway Modelling and Model Rail I buy from the newsagents, usually buy and quite often regret it.

I should cut down on these last two, you should do what you want. Keith Make friends in the hobby. Visit Garratt photos for the big steam lovers.

Ah yes, RMC, I should have remembered that, I've looked at them on the shelves when I have been West of the ocean but was not impressed enough to buy one. Keith Make friends in the hobby. Visit Garratt photos for the big steam lovers.

RMC is very variable, though it does have lots of Canadian content. At least one of its staff writers, Ken Goslett, is a Cannuck.

Which side are you arguing for? ;-)

Considering that there's no reasonable arguement _for_ Diesels, you have to be on our side! ;-)

I haven't purchased a diesel model in almost three years, in the same time I've purchased about a dozen steam. :-)
