Repainting Hornby locos

I am having a problem repainting an LMS 8F. The plastic doesn't seem to like cellulose and it doesn't like acrylic either. I suppose good old Humbrol will work, but I was hoping to avoid having to fire up my airbrush for a few square inches. Is there a preliminary undercoat which allow me to use cellulose?

Also I found that removing the screen printed decoration on this loco using meths did not work at all as it removed the underlying paint which is reall y why I am doing this repaint.

Alistair, Have you tried Halfords spray paints (in cans) white and black primers are excellent ! ?

Also, have you tried nail varish remover for the numbers and letters with a cotton wool bud ? Test on a spare bit of plastic first mind you ?
