Do they have swings and roundabouts in school playgrounds?

Not any more, liability issues.

When I was at junior school in the 60s we had a wire frame aeroplane, and a wireframe sphere for climbing on, no rubber matting underneath or bark chips, just hard tarmac and chippings, if you fell you learnt to be more careful the next time. Now and again children would be sent home or to casualty for cuts, bumps and bruises.

Bachmann has an inexpensive pre-assembled school with playground equipment. I suppose it might be available in the UK. Here's a pix of one of mine:

The figures, benches, and fence are not part of the structure but the sliding board, swings, etc. are.

Include a bike shed somewhere. Fit a smoke unit behind it for added realism.

That would work Bill, do the characters and fittings come separate from the school house? Do you sell them?I'm in the US. Rob

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Bachmann school has the school and the playground equipment mounted on a plastic sheet base. The figures/characters are from various manufacturers (Preiser, Model Power, Bachmann) and the fence is by Model Power or Bachmann, the trash can and benches by Model Power. As you can see, I have a lot of people on my layout ($$$$)

No, I don't sell any of these items. I do have a nice selection of books, though.

The Bachmann School House (N scale) is item no.45807 (list price $10.00). You should be able to find it easily. I'm sure Walthers would have it. You might try Trainworld. They have good prices.

Rob replied; I'm OO scale though

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yikes! I don't know why I thought you were doing N scale! Here's the item number for Bachmann HO Scale School House: #45133.

The bad news is that the playground equipment is not included. Here's the Playground Equipment item no.: #42214. List price is $6.00. Includes siding board, see-saw, swings, and roundabout.

You might find a picture of it on Bachmann's website.

The only 'playground' equipment I can recall throughout my entire school life (from 1953 > 1965) was a wooden climbing frame at my Infants' (5-7 year olds) school. Certainly there was absolutely nothing at any of my Junior or Secondary schools.

Eeh, John, when I were a lad, we did have cricket stumps painted on the inside of the boundary wall in Junior school! Trouble was, if the ball went over the boundary fence into the street, you had to fill in a 68-page application for permission to leave the premises (or just do it and hope not to get caught!).

Cheers, Steve
